A step in the right direction

Hopefully by now you have seen the update to the ReStart Jeffco plan and can feel the power of our collective actions thus far.

On Monday JCEA launched our #RECALLtheRestart campaign asking that Jeffco follow DPS in their decision to start the year 100% online. Today it was announced that we will begin the 2020-2021 school year 100% online.

We are pleased with this decision to give more time and planning to address the health and safety needs of staff and students. We appreciate the additional details offered in the update today. We are amazed by all of the hard work and dedication our members have shown in supporting a safer return to school and we are thankful for every educator who has stood up for the health and safety of our students, staff, and communities.

We strongly believe that school health and safety is community health and safety and we must continue to plan, adjust, and evaluate our path forward as we face the COVID-19 health crisis.

What happened today is just one step forward in the journey to the return to school. We know that the changes announced today may raise new questions and concerns. We also know that our work to advocate for a safer return to school continues.

Bargaining dates update

We have two very important issues still to cover at the bargaining table. Our MOU which will address what working conditions will look like this fall (be it online, hybrid or in person) and compensation. We are still working to finalize dates and times – we will publish those as quickly as they are confirmed.

Due to the huge number of participants in our last virtual town hall we have expanded our capacity for online events. Please note that this will change the format of this event from a very large zoom session to a more formal panel discussion and Monday will look different that what you have experienced in the past.
