JCEA AR Council Votes Unanimously to Support 3A & 3B

Sep 08, 2016
Members of the Jefferson County Education Association (JCEA) Representative Council voted unanimously in August to support the bond and mill levy override proposals, 3A and 3B, referred to the November ballot by the Board of Education earlier this month. The council is comprised of educators from every school in the district who are elected by their colleagues to represent them in JCEA.

“We look forward to continued collaboration with the school district and Board of Education to ensure we have the schools JeffCo students deserve,” said John Ford, a social studies teacher and president of JCEA. “The election in November will offer JeffCo residents the opportunity to provide much-needed resources to our district in order to attract and retain high-quality experienced educators and make sure our classrooms are safe learning environments for our students.”

PreK-12 funding in Colorado faces a lot of challenges. The funds generated by 3A and 3B will go towards long overdue repairs and improvements in schools including roofs, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and mechanical systems. The average school building in JeffCo is more than 45 years old. The resources will also allow JeffCo schools to continue providing students with instruction, skills, and hands-on learning necessary for success in college and the workplace through the expansion of “STEM” programs (science, technology, engineering, and math), as well as the arts, music, and career/technical education.
