JCEA Treasurer election 2021
Andrew Gitner for JCEA Treasurer
In 2014, I packed my entire life into a small car and drove to Colorado to start my career at a Jeffco charter school. After spending 3 years there, I saw what happens when workers’ rights to unify were curtailed. As soon as I could, I joined JCEA when I began teaching English at Golden High School in 2017. I saw, like many of us, how COVID magnified many of the problems within our district. I became more active in our union during the 2020-21 school year in order to help maintain a positive staff culture at my school and to maintain a positive work environment for my colleagues. Together, we organized to resist dual-modality the entire year, and helped to ensure the safest possible learning conditions for students and staff.
JCEA’s bargaining team was inspiring, and it demonstrated educators’ power when we pool our talent. I helped to organize my building to attend bargaining sessions and events, but most people around the district will recognize me from the memes that featured management. Every time somebody shares that they enjoyed those memes, I find gratitude in being able to do something to help another educator get through that difficult time with a smile. JCEA gave me a sense of purpose and professional unity when I needed it, and I am excited to give back.
I’m running for Treasurer to help ensure that JCEA is there for the next generations of Jeffco educators. It’s important for our Association to be financially stable in the coming years. I approach this position with an attitude of service and humility, and I’m looking forward to listening, learning, and fighting on behalf of all Jefferson County Educators.
Ballots will be sent to all JCEA members in good standing on October 12th 2021

It’s all hands on deck! We are 25 days from election day!
If every JCEA member volunteered just one hour to outreach fellow members and voters this fall – we can win. We can hold onto a majority of our school board seats for the next four years! We can elect three awesome candidates who have deep roots in Jeffco. Former educators, longtime public school champions and leaders who understand that working with front-line educators is key to continuing to improve our working and learning conditions.
We have a FANTASTIC slate of candidates this fall, Paula Reed, Danielle Varda, and Mary Parker. You and your colleagues are the most trusted and respected messengers for voters about why this election matters so much, who educators are supporting, and what our shared vision is for the future of Jeffco Public Schools.
We can win this – if we all do our part!

Helping Kids Thrive
Helping Kids Thrive was created 31 years ago when caring community organizations came together to address the high rate of youth suicide in Jefferson County. Led by Jefferson Center, the event includes representatives from Jeffco Public Schools, Jeffco PTA, JCEA, and more, and brings together programs, resources, and tools vital to raising healthy kids. Helping Kids Thrive is a powerful way for parents to learn the tools, tips, and techniques to help with the challenges of raising kids in an ever-changing world.
This year, the conference will be held completely virtually so that more parents, guardians, and caregivers will be able to access presentations and vital information than ever before.
