10/9/20 – Quarantine and the COVID-19 monitoring committee

Educator voice must be valued.

Dear JCEA members,

I have heard from many of you today with questions and concerns about the sudden changes to the quarantine process across our district. If you have not yet been given access to this information it can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1erH8QjJ4HN2exI4xNMUL7_r1Ffuw3fTmVv6QGFOiP0g/edit

This decision was made without consultation with JCEA, JESPA  or the joint COVID monitoring committee which was negotiated in our most recent MOU. It is important that you and your colleagues send a clear message to district leadership that they must honor what they agreed to and include all stakeholders in decisions which impact your health and safety.

There are two actions to take immediately to address this:

  1. Sign our petition to interim Superintendent Schuh and the members of the Jefferson County School Board: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/no-decision-making-without-collaboration/
  2. Submit your concern’s about the new quarantine procedures directly:

Hundreds of JCEA members took action over the summer using feedback from thousands of Jeffco educators to work towards a safer return. It is our duty to uphold the commitments made in that process to protect each other, our students and our communities.

In solidarity,

Brooke Williams
