May council Recap

Most of our time last night was spent focused on bargaining and what it will take to settle a strong deal that meets our collective goals BEFORE the end of June. This may prove to be a challenge as bargaining this year has proved to be very lopsided. Your JCEA team has drafted and proposed language changes to more than 20 articles, while the district only asked to take the lead on 4 articles.

Despite management’s lighter workload in terms of articles on the table, they have been slow in providing substantive counter proposals, which means now we have a large back log of counters due back to your JCEA team. Article 22 for example, JCEA’s all new language to support equity and inclusion was proposed on February 25th, and to date NOTHING has come back from management.

So what does this mean for our AACs, ARs and members?

It means it’s GO TIME. Organize, organize – ORGANIZE!

We have just about a month or organize and push on the management team and district leadership to get moving and come to agreement on a deal that supports Jeffco educators and our student’s learning conditions. We know folks are busy wrapping up an incredibly long year, so if there is one thing we would encourage you to talk to your members about, it’s that if we all do a little – no one is stuck carrying the heavy load.

There are quite literally thousands of JCEA members across the district.

If every member is willing to do just ONE thing, (write an email to the BOE, send a postcard, post on social media, wear a sticker) take just FIVE MINUTES (to join virtual bargaining, host a stand up meeting, talk to a parent or community member about our goals) or outreach THREE other members to ask them to participate too, the district will feel the power of you and your colleagues QUICKLY.

They will know without a doubt that you all are united, strong, and serious about winning major improvements to your contract this year.

JCEA Proud photo petition project

Last night we kicked off our bargaining support photo petition project! Our goal is to collect photos and signatures of support from a majority of our membership in the next week!

This petition will be delivered to the management bargaining team, our school board members, cabinet members and to every building – as always, we are stronger together!

Steps to success:

  1. Sign the virtual petition HERE.
  2. Submit any photo of your choosing – either via text to Chesca at (720) 454 6066 OR via email to jceacomms@gmail.com
  3. Spread the word! Out reach your fellow JCEA members and ask them to join you!

Here are a couple of examples of photo petitions from other education organizing campaigns – imagine what it will feel like to see the faces of hundreds (or THOUSANDS! of your fellow JCEA members) P.O.W.E.R.F.U.L!!!
