A statement from JCEA President Brooke Williams on the “Restart Jeffco” announcement today:

“Today, the Jefferson County Public School District released their final draft of their 2020-21 COVID Re-Start plan. As we process this update, JCEA remains committed to a safe return to work that protects our communities, including students and the educators, and support staff in the buildings.

“In this pandemic crisis, we also must acknowledge that working conditions in our physical school buildings extend far beyond the school itself, into the homes, families, and communities of every educator and school staff member potentially receiving students in person this fall. COVID-19 is novel, and although we have some facts and data about how COVID-19 affects our youth, there are still many unknowns about how they are impacted in a school setting and how students may spread the virus to the adults around them.

“We share the belief with the district that our students must have access to safe, and high-quality learning experiences. It is also in the best interest of our entire community that we take every step we can to keep students, employees, and our community safe from the continued spread of COVID-19.

“We remain willing and ready to engage with the district in meaningful conversation that involves employee, parent, community, and health experts’ input. We believe doing so is the right thing for our children and Jeffco community.”

The bottom line is, there is still work to be done, changes to be made and an MOU to be bargained.

The “deal” is not sealed – our work continues and your voices and actions can and will influence what happens in August!

JCEA Operational Board members Ang Anderson and Elizabeth Morgan are heading up our “Restart” team – if you would like to be a part of that ongoing team please sign up HERE.
