9/2/2020 – Tomorrow, break out the JCEA BLUE!

JCEA members are asking our Jeffco board of education to invest in our front line educators – NOW.

Join us tomorrow for a day of action!

Our members have been crystal clear – we need Jeffco to INVEST IN OUR EDUCATORS. Now is not the time to shortchange our most valuable asset – the professional educators doing the work to educate and support our students in the midst of a global health crisis.

The District has plenty of money in reserves–enough to fund these modest increases. No money from reserves was needed to balance the budget for 2020-2021.

The issue is not that the district is out of money – it is in how our district leadership chooses to use it.

Quick recap from our last compensation bargaining session:

District counter – no steps, levels and agree to take the suspension off the table for now, 1% lump sum money, take a student non-contact day and make it a day off with pay, significant means $10 million and $10 million or more for the increase.

August 11 JCEA counter
Step and level movement, .75% lump sum, return to the table.

It’s management’s turn to make a counter offer, and we are asking the school board to empower the district management team to invest in educators – even if it means moving money from the reserves.

Our theme of the night is – INVEST in Jeffco educators!

Give our State leadership feedback on their draft “dial” on COVID-19 “phases” in our schools

All of the pressure we have collectively put on the state over the past few months has led to them creating some clarity on the differences between Stay at Home, Safer at Home and Protect Your Neighbors and what the various declarations mean for schools and other industries.

You can view the entire presentation of this draft “dial” here: DRAFT DIAL

The state is looking for feedback via this form by noon on September 3. CEA is  also convening our Return to School Committee and will be putting a letter to the state with our comments and feedback as well. While this draft is a step in the right direction, it is still far from perfect and it is critical that our members and locals provide feedback. Please take a few minutes to provide your feedback here: http://bit.ly/CO_Draft_Dial

Last chance to apply to the ongoing COVID-19 committee

Applications for this committee are due by September 3rd!

District Collaborative Monitoring Committee: COVID-19, School, and Learning
As Jeffco Public Schools begins the 2020-21 school year under the spectrum of COVID-19 in which learning conditions appear very differently, the District and interim superintendent will create a collaborative committee to monitor conditions in our community and schools. This committee will be tasked with making data-informed consensus recommendations to the interim superintendent for consideration of adjustment to the District’s educational delivery plans or working conditions.

The committee will include members of our invested partner associations, our community (parents and citizens), and district administrators. If you are interested, please read more on the application and complete by September 3, 2020.
