Your JCEA bargaining team came to the table last to negotiate your JCEA contract! Shout out to our educators who came to the table to tell their story about how the issues we discussed impact them and their students.
These are the proposals that were passed at the table (as a reminder, JCEA proposes language written in blue, District management proposes language in red, and when we reach agreement, it is highlighted in yellow):
Appendix B: Coach & Sponsor stipends
JCEA reached a tentative agreement with District management to increase the final three lanes on the stipend schedule, and added new language to address placement of individuals when there is a new activity & athletics stipends.
Article 10: Collaboration
District Management passed this counter-proposal which weakens all collaborative efforts for central departments at the Ed Center. The language states that our educator colleagues at the Ed Center can serve on collaborative committees, but their input would only serve in an “advisory capacity” allowing management to make all final decisions regardless of whether it actually aligns with what the professionals in the role think is best. This is in no way actual collaboration.
Article 9: Student Discipline and Educator Assistance
JCEA educator members Michelle Saeger, Alex Randolph, and Brittany Bell shared their stories about the urgent need for stronger, more consistent support around student behavior and school safety. JCEA passed this proposal focused on enforceable consequences, timely administrative support, clear reentry protocols, educator protections and training, and consistent implementation of restorative practices alongside accountability. Additional language addressed thoughtful cell phone policies, educator voice in policy development, and district responsibility for providing resources and coverage when educators need temporary reassignment.
District management acknowledged the importance of being better prepared as adults, not placing blame on students, and shared that work is underway on a districtwide cell phone policy with opportunities for staff, student, and family input (Important: please take the District survey to provide feedback to their draft cellphone policy!). The discussion reinforced our goals of responding effectively to behavior as it occurs, ensuring consistency across schools, and making sure educators know what training and support is available to them.
