Bargaining Update!

Your JCEA bargaining team came to the table last to negotiate your JCEA contract and COMPENSATION!! Shout out to all the educators who joined us for our JCEA compensation proposal!

These are the proposals that were passed at the table (as a reminder, JCEA proposes language written in blue, District management proposes language in red, and when we reach agreement, it is highlighted in yellow):

Compensation

JCEA gave our financial presentation which highlights how the district is balancing their budget off the backs of educators and ESPs. Despite saying over and over that cuts will happen as far away from students as possible, the reality is that district management is planning on cutting at least 164 positions from our bargaining unit for next year which will have a very real impact on our students. Following our presentation, district management tried to say that our presentation did not contain factual information and said that because we did not compare our per pupil funding to our neighbors who have passed more mill levy overrides we were being intentionally misleading. The truth is, our facts are correct, as shown by this article by Senior Education Reporter Suzie Glassman and we know we have  less per pupil funding as compared to some of our neighboring districts – but the fact remains that the district continues to prioritize central administration over our students.

Highlights of our compensation proposal (Including Article 17):

  • Step and lane movement, and a proposal for this to be automatic and not a part of annual negotiations.
  • 4.25 % COLA
  • Increase Lane 6 of the schedule from 2% to 4%
  • Increasing pay for Outdoor Lab and other expeditionary overnight trips to 0.54% of the Lane 1 Step 1 salary

Note: Information is coming about open enrollment, but if you are on a United plan the cost of that plan will significantly increase.

The District said they will bring their compensation proposal April 23 so we REALLY need you there to show them you care about your paycheck. Sign up to commit to attending bargaining April 23.

Article 9: Student Discipline and Educator Assistance

This is a tentative, tentative agreement! What’s that? We are in agreement with all the language in the last proposal, however we also have a committee that is working on language in regards to school shootings and other large scale safety concerns. Language brought forward from that group may need to be added to Article 9 so we couldn’t fully put this one to bed. That said, we were able to really strengthen this article and double the amount of language in here in order to help keep both students and educators safe at school. We encourage you to read the full agreement linked above to familiarize yourself with the new protections available in your contract next year.

Article 10: Collaboration

We reached a tentative agreement! This article was only opened to clarify how collaboration works for our TOSAs who work on central teams, so no other changes were made here aside from that language.

Show up next help us WIN on the priorities your union is bringing to the table. You can find a list of all bargaining events and the status of all the items on the negotiations table on our bargaining action page.
