Jefferson County – Educators in Jefferson County volunteered their time this fall to help elect Peter Gibbons and Tina Moeinian to District 2 and District 5 of the Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education, and voters in our community showed up to help them win.

“Jeffco voters have shown they believe all students in Jeffco should have safe and welcoming neighborhood public schools with their vote this November,” said Brooke Williams, Art Educator and JCEA President. “Our community stands with educators in ensuring our students have access to the career pathways and/or college they need to be successful after graduation.”

In August, members of the Jefferson County Education Association’s (JCEA) small donor committee, made of multi-partisan, educator union members, recommended Peter Gibbons and Tina Moeinian for Jeffco school board. Educators are hopeful that as new members of the Board of Education, Tina and Peter will work with the current members of the school board to bring transparency and accountability to Jeffco. Together the board can bring the change needed for Jeffco Public Schools to restore the trust they have lost with our community members.

“Educators in Jeffco have felt like our District management has not been leading our schools in the right direction,” said Whitney Newman, elementary educator at Elk Creek Elementary and Chair of JCEA’s Political Action Team. “In light of the announcement Jeffco has made to cut the budget, our newly elected board members have an opportunity to show us they will do a better job of managing our taxpayer dollars to ensure funding reaches critical resources that support our students in the classroom. ”

It is anticipated that the new members of the Board of Education will be sworn in at a special meeting at the beginning of December.
