Bargaining Update!

Your JCEA bargaining team came to the table last to negotiate your JCEA contract! Shout out to all the educators who joined us just a few days before spring break!

These are the proposals that were passed at the table (as a reminder, JCEA proposes language written in blue, District management proposes language in red, and when we reach agreement, it is highlighted in yellow):

Article 9: Student Discipline and Educator Assistance

JCEA passed back our counter proposal, and this article is getting close to an agreement. We added back language to mirror school board policy and clarify the right educators and students have when faced with disruptive student behavior. We also added language regarding student cell phones, and educator requested reassignments due to unsafe working conditions.

Article 10: Collaboration

JCEA and District management went back and forth on this article last night (JCEA’s last proposal is linked above). This article is very close – we are working to clarify details in this proposal, like how educators who work in central departments are elected to collaborative teams. The District continues to add unnecessary language regarding management rights, however we continue to strike this language because it undermines the collaborative spirit of this article in the contract.

Article 13: Leaves

District management’s counter proposal returned most of this this article to original language and struck our proposed language. The District gave a presentation about changing short term disability plans from the current private plan (The Standard) to the state run FAMLI plan. We believe the District is misinterpreting the law around FAMLI and we intend to seek our own answers directly from the FAMLI office. The District also struck our proposal for short term leave payouts. While most of the District’s proposal was a resounding “no,” District conceded that members who are on an extended leave are allowed to take their days, and will not be forced into unpaid leave or to take short term disability.

Mark your calendar for April 2nd – JCEA will be giving our financial presentation and our first compensation proposal! Use the link to commit to showing up JCEA strong for our compensation proposal!
