Event

The Eve Approaches

On Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in the Mexican tradition, skeletons will clunk and clatter as they jump for sheer joy.  And no wonder.  They’ve been cooped up the whole year and now they’re ready to party.  The Mexican Catrina, beloved grand dame of Mexico’s dance with death, and brightly decorated Calaveras are ready to shake, rattle, roll and celebrate the biggest event on the graveyard’s social calendar!

President Bowen’s Message

Our Annual Meeting on April 17th focused on the PERA bill SB 200. Amie Baca-Oehlert and Lynea Hansen talked about the amendments made in the House and their hope that the Senate would approve the bill. By the time the bill went to committee, more changes were made. It was passed in the eleventh-hour of the legislative session without CEA support. Check out the chart on page two which compares current PERA rules and the SB 200 final version courtesy of Secure PERA.

President’s Message

I think this is a perfect quote for the start of a new school year. Families, their students, and teachers begin the new school year with many hopes and aspirations. Together they work to make their dreams come true. I also think this quote is apropos to the goals of JCEA. The future of quality public schools and the prosperity of those who educate our youth are fundamental objectives of the Association. As members of JCEA-Retired, we play an important role in supporting JCEA to achieve these dreams. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered in a variety of ways and those who will in the coming months. We are Jeffco Strong!
