Legislative Action
“Education is inherently an ethical and political act.”
Michael Apple
Because JCEA knows that nearly every educational decision begins with our legislators and school board, we encourage member participation in the political process.
We also seek to inform the voting public by making recommendations on candidates and issues we believe support our public schools and organizational values. This is done through our bipartisan small donor committee, JCEA-SDC.

NEA Policy Briefs
JCEA is affiliated with the National Education Association. NEA is committed to improving achievement for all students and closing the achievement gaps, particularly for students living with poverty, homelessness, and racial injustice. Legislative Liaison Program
Information is power. It’s that simple. As public education employees, we must have as much information as we can get about where the political decision makers are headed and why—after all, every decision made about our public schools is a political decision. Moreover, we must elevate educator voice to our policy makers and help them make the right choices for our public schools.
That is why our Association’s grassroots legislative network is founded on the CEA Legislative Liaison structure. Each Legislative Liaison is assigned to one legislator. The job has two aspects: to lobby your legislator and to help coordinate member lobbying activities in your local.
Do you want to be a voice for your colleagues and students? Here is how you can:
- Sign up to attend one of the JCEA lobby days at the capital! Educators like you descend upon the capital a few times each session to elevate their voice and students’ needs as policy makers make important decisions about education legislation. Training is provided.
- Read on for the full description of what it means to be a JCEA Legislative Liaison! We are looking for members to meet once a month with their legislator and other Jeffco parents and staff to have important conversations about pending education legislation. Training is provided.
- Email Callie Orgeron (corgeron@coloradoea.org) if you’re interested or would like more info on either of these opportunities!
