Run for the JCEA Board of Directors

This spring, JCEA will have three open seats on our Operational Board of Directors, and we will be seeking nominations for each Action Team at AR Council Tuesday March 12. Our organization is seeking member who have a vision to lead our organization in the following areas:

  • Forming deeper relationships within our community, and working to build coalitions for public education.
  • Developing and hosting workshops, professional development, and other professional learning opportunities for educators. We specifically welcome anyone interested in organizing opportunities around social justice, the evaluation system, and mental health supports (though all ideas are welcome).
  • Implementing an action plan to recruit and retain educators of color in Jeffco Public Schools.

If you have an interest in any of the following, read the full description of each Action Team chair (per the 2018 Standing Rules of the organization) below. Once you have decided to seek candidacy, please reply to jford@coloradoea.org and cwiggins@coloradoea.org with your written intent to run. Our organization is not built on one leader, but many. We welcome all to run who have a passion for making our union and public education stronger.

Team Duties
Community Outreach Action Team The COAT  shall:

  1. Develop and implement an action plan to achieve the goals set for the team by the JCEA Board, Council, and Staff.
  2. Organize the community to create support for public education, student achievement, and JCEA.
  3. Initiate and maintain coalition relationships.
Professional Practices Action Team The PPAT shall:

A. Develop and implement an action plan to achieve the goals set for the team by the JCEA Operational Board, Council, and Staff.

B. Create and organize professional workshops in instructional practices and other educational topics.

Ethnic /Minority Outreach  and Advocacy Team The EMOAT shall:

A. Develop and implement an action plan to achieve the goals set for the team by the JCEA Operational Board, Council, and Staff.

B. Promote JCEA’s compliance with NEA’s bylaw 3-1g. by annually informing Council of the NEA’s 3-1 g goal and complete with the assistance of the President and/or Executive Director JCEA’s 3-1 g plan to be submitted to CEA in a timely manner in order for the local delegation to be seated at Delegate Assembly. Provide information to CEA about work of Ethnic Minority members in local.

C. Identify and recruit minority members into leadership roles and address issues and concerns, where appropriate.

D. Monitor minority membership of Standing and Special Committees in order to ensure minority participation.

E. Recommend to the President a member for CEA EMAC.

Association Representatives will elect Action Team chairs at the April 9th Council meeting. AR’s will be responsible for electing the chairs on April 9th. Each school should plan on sending one AR in order to cast your vote in this important election.
