JCEA Members,
In trying times, Leaders Lead!
Over the last two weeks, I have been astonished to see your unwavering drive to take the lead on remote learning for Colorado. During the last six years of my presidency, we have done amazing things, but what we have done during the COVID-19 pandemic has truly been remarkable. Moving 85,000 students to remote learning in two weeks has been nothing short of a miracle, and today I can say without reservation that I have never been more proud of you and JCEA.
It is no secret that teachers number one job is to “inspire.” During this crazy emotional time, you have been the voice of calm and compassion throughout our community. Every time I am on social media, I see your relentless inspiration and devotion to our students. Keep it up!
My days as JCEA president are coming to a close and over the next two months, our association will be transitioning.
On June 1, you will have a new president and leadership team driving the work of our Union. Until May 31, I will continue to be your president and will lead this organization through the difficult days ahead. Please have confidence that I will to continue to work with Dr. Glass and the District to make sure your rights and needs come first.
Your voices and feedback have been critical as we have moved online – please keep your questions and concerns coming! It was our members who pushed for many of the changes which have happened over the last two weeks and together we will continue our path forward in this new world.
Finally, during my time as your president, I have grown as a person and I have done my best to lead with strength and hope. As I reflect on the past six years, I would be remiss if I did not let you know that you have always been at the heart of my work. On those dark and lonely days of my presidency when I felt like a failure, it was your encouraging words, and grit that drove me to be my best.
As I walk into the next chapter of my career I want thank each one of you for your faith and trust in me as your president. I came into the Presidency during a time of crisis as we faced the recall election and I am confident we will continue to rise to the challenge as we face the crisis of COVID-18.
You will never know how much you made a difference in my life, but I do. Thank YOU!
In Solidarity,
John
